Ramadan Companion E-Course Lesson 13 of 30

Dhikr In Hadith-  Part  II

1. On the authority of Abu Musa Radiyallāhu `Anhu – May Allah be pleased with him] who narrated that the Messenger of Allah [Rasuulullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam – Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him said:

“If a person has wealth with him and distributes it to others, while another person is only engaged in Dhikrullah – the Remembrance of Allah, then the latter one who is engaged in Dhikrullah is the better of the two.” [1]

            [ Reported by Imam At-Tabarāni ]

Spending in the path of Almighty Allah is a splendid virtue.  Almighty Allah states in the Holy Qur’an:

“The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is as the likeness of a grain of corn. It grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. And Allah gives manifold increase to whom He wills, and Allah is All Embracing, All Knowing.” [2]

            [ Sūratul Baqarah, 2:261 ]

How fortunate are those wealthy persons, who, in addition to spending their wealth for the pleasure of Allah, also remain devoted to His Dhikr or Remembrance.

 2.  On the authority of Mu`ādh Ibn Jabal Radhi Allaho Anho
who narrated that the Messenger of Allah Peace Be Upon Him  said:

“Those who are admitted into Jannah will not regret anything in their worldly existence, except the time spent without doing DHIKR.” [3]

            [ Reported by Imam At-Tabarāni and Al-Bayhaqi ]

 3. On the authority of Abu Hurayrah Radhi Allaho Anho
and Abu Sa`īd Al-Khudri Radhi Allaho Anho
who both testified that the Messenger of Allah Peace Be Upon Him said:

“The gathering engaged in Dhikr is surrounded by angels, mercy and Sakīnah descend upon them, and Allah mentions them to those who are in His presence.” [4]

[ Reported by Imam Muslim, Ahmad, At-Tirmidhi, Ibn Mājah, and Al-Bayhaqi ]

SAKĪNAH refers to inner feelings of peace, tranquillity, satisfaction, and contentment. It is also considered a special mercy from Almighty Allah. Imam An-Nawawi states that SAKĪNAH is a special favor consisting of peace and tranquillity, and is brought down from the heavens by the angels.
