Ramadan Companion E-Course Lesson 1 of 30

Almighty Allah says in the Qur’an :

“O you who believe!

Fasting has been made obligatory on you just as it was prescribed on those before you, that you may learn self-restraint. (AL-BAQARAH, 2:183)

(The Fast is to be observed) for a fixed number of days.

If, however, anyone of you is ill or on a journey, the prescribed number (should be made up) from days later.

As for those who can fast (but with hardship), the expiation of this shall be the feeding of one needy person (for each day of  fast).

And who does more than this with a willing heart does it for his own good.

But if only you understand this matter, it is better for you to observe the Fast.

( AL-BAQARAH, 2:184)

Ramadaan is the month in which the Qur’an was sent down.

This Book is a perfect guidance for mankind and consists of clear teachings which show the right way and are a criterion of Truth and Falsehood, (and Judgement between Right and Wrong).

Therefore from now on whoever witnesses it, it is obligatory on him to fast the whole month,

But if any one is ill or on a journey, he should make up for the same number by fasting on other days (later).

Allah desires ease for you, and does not desire hardship for you.

Therefore this method is being shown to you so that you may complete the number of Fast days and glorify Allah for the Guidance He has shown to you and be grateful to Him.      ( AL-BAQARAH, 2:185).

And when My servants ask you, concerning Me, (tell them that) I am indeed near to them.

I hear and answer the prayer of every suppliant when he calls on Me.

So let them respond to My call and believe in Me: that they may walk in the right way.     ( AL-BAQARAH, 2:186).

It has been made lawful for you to go to your wives during the nights of the fast days. They are like a garment to you and you are (like) a garment to them.

Allah knows what you used to do secretly among yourselves, but He turned to you

(in mercy), and forgave you.

Now you are permitted to have intercourse with your wives and enjoy what Allah has made lawful for you.

You are also permitted to eat and drink during the nights of the Fasting month, until you can discern the white streak (thread) of dawn from the blackness of night.

Then (abstain from all these things and) complete your Fast till night-fall.

But you should not have intercourse with your wives while you confine yourselves to the mosques (for I`tikaf during the last ten days of Ramadaan).

Those are the limits set by Allah; so do not even go near them.

In this way Allah makes His Signs clear to mankind, that they may learn self restraint.    ( AL-BAQARAH, 2:187 )
